Academic education

He graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the Cattolica University of Rome on March 2, 1987, with a score of 105/110. He obtained his professional license from the same university in the April 1987 examination session. Since April 1987, he began his training as a visiting physician in the Orthopedics Department of the Bambino Gesù Hospital. In the academic year 1987/88, he was admitted to the specialization school in Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart.

He interned at the Orthopedic Clinic from March 1987 to July 1988, participating in ward activities, plaster room, and operating room. In July 1988, he was appointed as a contract assistant in the Second Division of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Scientific Research Institute Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital.

On July 14, 1992, he obtained his specialization in Orthopedics and Traumatology from the Cattolica University of Romet with a score of 50/50 cum laude, defending his thesis titled "CT Scan as an Early Evaluation Method in the Treatment of Congenital Hip Dislocation."

He has attended international training courses on foot surgery at the S. Raphael Hospital in Barcelona  (Spain), pediatric orthopedic surgery and scoliosis surgery at the Children’s Hospital Harvard University in Boston (USA), and orthopedic surgery for brain-injured patients at the Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry (UK).

From September 1991 to September 1993, he was an orthopedic consultant at the U.I.L.D.M. in Rome (Italian Union for the Fight Against Muscular Dystrophy).

From September 1993 to January 1998, he was an orthopedic consultant at the Opera Don Guanella in Rome, a center specialized in the care and rehabilitation of Cerebral Palsy. This consultancy resumed from November 2011 to September 2015. From September 1994 to March 2004, he was an orthopedic consultant at the A.I.A.S. (Italian Association for Assistance to Spastics) Center in Castellammare di Stabia. From September 1997 to March 2004, he was an orthopedic consultant at the A.I.A.S. Center in Afragola. From June 1997 to March 2007, he was an orthopedic consultant in the Pediatric Neurorehabilitation Department of the IRCCS San Raffaele in Rome, a center specialized in the rehabilitation of brain-injured patients.

Since September 1989, he has performed more than 10,000 surgeries as the lead surgeon at the Orthopedics  Unit of Bambino Gesù Hospital.

In July 2007, he was appointed Head of the High Specialization in "Orthopedic Surgery of Spasticity" at the Pediatric Surgery Department of Bambino Gesù Hospital.

In July 2010, he was confirmed as Head of the High Specialization in "Neuro-Orthopedics" at the Department of Surgery and Transplant Center in Rome. In December 2011, he was appointed Head of the Simple Structure of Neuro-Orthopedics at the Surgical Department, a position reconfirmed in December 2014 and December 2017.

Since January 2019, he has been appointed Head of the Complex Structure of Orthopedics at Bambino Gesù Hospital.

In the field of Neuro-Orthopedics, he performs all types of interventions described in the literature, including botulinum toxin injections, functional surgery (muscle-tendon lengthening and transpositions, muscle balancing), reconstructive surgery for acquired bone deformities (femoral and pelvic osteotomies, knee osteotomies, foot osteotomies, and arthrodesis), intrathecal baclofen pump implantation, and minimally invasive percutaneous fibrotomy for the treatment of spasticity. In the field of pediatric orthopedics, he deals with classic conditions such as congenital clubfoot, congenital hip dislocation, and flatfoot. For over thirty-five years, he has been involved in the conservative treatment of scoliosis, transitioning from the traditional Lyon method with plaster casts to new generation braces.

He is an ordinary member of the Italian Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (SIOT), the Italian Society of Ankle and Foot, and the Italian Society of Pediatric Orthopedics and Traumatology (SITOP).

Since the academic year 2018/2019, teaches "Orthopedics and Traumatology" (SSD:MED/33) at the Specialization School in Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome
